The endless street provision of slang is not taking a break with the advent of social media as our day to day conversation has been spiced with it.

Cut soap for me” is an expression that just joined the endless list and you begin to wonder what it means as the literal meaning makes no sense.

In the real sense, telling someone to cut soap for you sounds ridiculous but reading through this post will expose the origin of the expression in relation to its current viral usage.

One thing cannot be taken away from Africans and that is our indigenous belief about divination and diabolism.

Before the advent of Christianity and Islam, these beliefs have shaped our values and moral system.

The truth is, these beliefs will still be part of us as far as we remain as Africans.

Making indigenous soap is one of our crafts as Africans and the end product of these soaps are black lathery substances.

In ancient days it was used for washing various wares from utensils, clothes and other stuff that needed washing including our body.

These black soaps have been modernly packaged by some vendors to at least give it a befitting look.

It is undeniable as Africans that we use these soaps for different spiritual purposes.

How these work for us is inexplicable but the fact remains that testimonies have been made by different individuals who have used black soap with native sponge to meet their spiritual purposes.

From my discussion with some people I learned that herbalists prescribe and prepare these soaps blended with different native materials to achieve debatable solutions to various spiritual problems.

Once met a woman “Iya Dasola” (Not real name) who gave a testimony of bathing with the black soap her pastor gave her to increase sales in her textile business. She told me her Pastor instructed her to use it for only 3 nights.

Reasonably, some people would believe that if Iya Dasola should cut a portion of the soap for them, it’s likely for them to make sales in their business too.

This is debatable but inexplicable as some might find it hard to believe.

The expression “Cut Soap for Me” has now been ordained as a new way of telling someone who is successful in a particular craft or making waves through a skill or act, to show you how it is done.

Hence, “Cut Soap for Me” today means “Show me how” or “Teach me the secret recipe to your success”.

This expression is beginning to gain stature in our daily “netversation” and even within ourselves offline.

Next time someone tells you to cut soap for them, it means you’re doing better than them and they’re asking you to show them how you achieve this success.

…………..nothing diabolic or fetish attached to their request.
